DERRICK LAM
Founding Shareholder
Derrick Lam is a founding shareholder of Huey Lam PC, where he represents current and former employees in a broad range of employment litigation matters. His practice includes cases involving discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, wage and hour violations, unpaid commissions and bonuses, breach of contract, fraud, negligence, and violations of California employment laws.
Derrick represents clients across a wide range of industries and professional backgrounds, including co-founders, executives, software engineers, product managers, sales professionals, human resources professionals, pharmaceutical representatives, and minimum wage workers.
Known for his strategic and hands-on approach, Derrick is a tireless advocate who works closely with clients to pursue practical and effective outcomes. He combines strong litigation experience with a client-centered style that prioritizes communication, responsiveness, and careful case strategy.
Before co-founding Huey Lam PC, Derrick began his legal career in the Honors Program of the United States Department of Justice Antitrust Division, where he served as a Paralegal Specialist. After law school, he joined Paul Hastings LLP, representing employers in employment disputes involving national retailers, healthcare organizations, wholesale distributors, and pharmaceutical companies in both court and arbitration.
Derrick later joined Littler Mendelson P.C., the world’s largest management-side employment law firm, where he was promoted to Shareholder and then Equity Shareholder within a year. During his time there, he also served on the firm’s Los Angeles Recruiting Committee.
In addition to his legal practice, Derrick is actively involved in the legal community. He currently serves as an LA Co-City Lead for the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity and is a proud member of the Southern California Chinese Lawyers Association, where he previously served on the board for several years.
Derrick graduated with honors from University of Michigan and earned his J.D. from George Washington University Law School.
